My Words to Live By

Category: Senior Living

Author: Ashley Moore, Executive Director

Each year, I select a Word of the Year—a simple yet meaningful word to guide my focus and intentions both personally and professionally. As the Executive Director at The Town & Country Senior Living in Town & Country, Missouri, the start of a new year always feels like a chance to reset, refocus, and prepare for challenges and opportunities. This word serves as an anchor, influencing how I lead my team, support families, and care for residents. Reflecting on the past year, I am amazed at how deeply my Word of the Year shaped 2024.

2024: A Year to Listen

My Word of the Year for 2024 was listen. This focus shaped my decisions, relationships, and personal growth throughout the year. Listening actively taught me the importance of clear communication and deeper understanding. By embracing this practice, I strengthened my connections with others and became more mindful in setting future intentions. It also encouraged me to embrace vulnerability, which further enriched my leadership and personal interactions.

Lessons Learned from Listening

The lessons I learned from listening will continue to guide me into 2025. At work, it enhanced my ability to engage meaningfully with residents, families, and team members. Personally, it deepened my relationships and improved how I approach challenges. This focus on listening provided a strong foundation for growth, one I am eager to build upon in the coming year.

2025: A Year to Find Balance

Looking ahead, my Word of the Year for 2025 is balance. This word reflects my commitment to maintaining equilibrium across all aspects of life. It highlights the importance of personal well-being while striving for continued professional growth. By focusing on balance, I hope to ensure that I can care for myself as much as I care for others.

Balance will guide me to prioritize self-care, allocate time for personal relationships, and continue fostering a strong sense of community at work. It reminds me that success is not just about achievement but also about maintaining harmony in all areas of life.

Reflecting on the Power of Words

Choosing a Word of the Year is not about having all the answers. Instead, it’s about setting an intention and allowing it to guide your journey. For me, listening in 2024 created the foundation for balance in 2025. These words shape how I approach challenges, relationships, and opportunities, both personally and professionally.
